Our love story

Ian: “Life was ticking along nicely for me back in 2013, everything was good but I wasn’t really interested in meeting anyone in a pub or a club (again!) so I signed up to online dating to see if it would be of any interest.

It didn’t take long to get chatting to a girl who struck me as being very interesting so without further ado I asked her out for a coffee…..turned into about 6 if I recall, on Tuesday night, no less. Suffice to say, I didn’t sleep much that night. A mixture of butterflies in my stomach and lots of caffeine kept me awake til the small hours.

We had our first proper date that Saturday and our first kiss as well. Within a few weeks, we had gone to a wedding and had a week in Portugal and become pretty much inseparable, as we are to this day. From the start, I always said that I knew Gillian; it was like she was the missing part of me that I
didn’t know I had lost, but when we kissed, the absence was made whole.

We’ve had our challenges and our up and downs but we always face them together and we always support each other. Everybody claims to have met their soul mate and I hope they really have, because if they did then they would have a partner who knows their thoughts before they do, finishes their
sentences, their jokes, their songs. A partner who makes you laugh until you literally cry and hold your sides, someone who gets you in all the big and little ways.

I found my soul mate and on the 30th of April, I want to tell everyone about why this girl has made me so happy and why I want to spend every day of my life with her.”

Gillian: “I joined Plenty of Fish, an online dating site, to browse rather than buy. When I met Ian I was having the time of my life and wasn’t really looking for a happy ever after.

However, here we are! He definitely made an impression. As soon as I spotted him on our first date, sitting with his back to the door, I felt like I was meeting an old friend. We intended to go for one coffee after work but were still there hours later. Ian talked as much as I did and it turned out both love whisky, bad puns and deep conversations. He is such easy company. I have never met anyone who makes me laugh so much and loves me for just being me.

As we got to know each other it turned out that there were many many times Ian and I were in the same place at the same time. Yet when we met, in September 2013 for that first date in the Library Bar, it was exactly the right time and he is exactly the right person.

We were together less than 3 months when Ian proposed for the first time. From then on we were pretty much living together absolutely certain that we were meant to be. Things haven’t quite gone to plan and it has been some journey already but I know that no matter what the future brings we make an awesome team. We may not have it all together but together we have it all.

The happy ending does not happen in the middle of the story and our marriage is just the beginning of our next chapter! I really hope you will be able to join us for this very special celebration.”
